I serve as a supporting transformational leader for many of my organizations. While the executive leaders in my organizations fulfill promises for their masses, I'm usually amongst the newer members of these masses as a mentor and liaison. This unique leadership style affords me the following strengths, abilities, and quirks whenever I am in a position of power.

  • I'm the introvert's favorite extrovert. I'm nerdy enough to talk about what they want to talk about, while being also emotionally intelligent enough to give them the silence needed for them to express all their closely kept feelings. This makes me pretty decent at recruitment.

  • I'm very willing to answer questions. I'm also willing to ask questions. That is really all you need to drive up engagement.

  • I know how to disrupt the status quo, especially if the status quo makes someone uncomfortable. Sometimes this involves me resolving issues with a person who has been antagonizing organization members for a long time, or for me to call for a change in organizational culture.

  • However, I am still working on my conscientiousness. I'm the ideas guy. I do heavily depend on the presidents and vice presidents in my life to be the execution guys.

The Tutorial Guide Kind of Leader

My face would not have gotten on there if I haven't supported my friend Matt Chavez, a computer science major, to pursue a cookie baking enterprise. At the beginning of the fall semester, he was a new member who came into my board game club meeting with a fresher batch of cookies. I said that they tasted awesome and next I knew I was tasting a new batch of cookies every week at our meetings.

What I couldn't do was give Matt constructive criticism because all his cookies were just that good. However, what I could do was introduce Matt to the other organizations that I am in. I also invited him to several hospitality events in my college so he could gain insights into the food and beverage industry.

It didn't take long for Matt's cookies to become all our friends' favorite cookies, or for him to learn the process to get a food handler's permit. As I am writing this, he is in the process of registering his passion as an official small business, only two months after I tried his cookies for the first time.
